Over the past two weeks Your Pontypridd BID has attended Fresher Fair’s at Coleg Y Cymoed, Nantgarw and University of South Wales, Treforest Campus launching the FREE 2018/19 Student Discount Card.

The Student Card now comes with added key fob and has 40 offers so far from independents and national chains and includes retail, food, leisure offers including free entry to gigs and services everything from estate agents to hairdressers and barbers, opticians, physiotherapists and osteopaths.

Your Pontypridd is delighted to have new businesses Globetrotters Bar and Ghekko Rags Lost Boys as part of the Student Card scheme, both became voluntary member of the Your Pontypridd BID to take part, a sign of how important the growing student market is becoming to the town.

The BID team were pleased to be at Coleg Y Cymoed Nantgarw campus Fresher's Fair for the first time this year, the innovative design of the building provided the perfect backdrop to a busy day signing up students and selling the best of Pontypridd.

Meanwhile at University of South Wales (USW) on top of the great discounts and offers from Pontypridd’s business the BID worked in partnership with Arriva Trains Wales who donated a hundred free return train passes for Fresher Week from Treforest and Pontypridd, this went down particularly well with the students.

The BID would like to thank Stavros and Dani from Lazarou Hairdressers, Ellie and Celyn from James Douglas Estate Agents and Maggie Hughes from Harvest Crafts & Books for attending the USW Fresher Fair in Treforest, meeting the students, promoting their offers and selling the delights of Pontypridd.

Other BID business Thomas Recruitment, Valleys Sports, Kraft Kabin and Prince’s Café gave goodies for the stall, welsh cakes and extra discounts for #WelcomeWeek which prompted several students to tell us we had the best stall at the Fair, not bad with free pizza and ice-cream on offer in the hall.

Almost 1,500 cards were given out at both Fresher Fairs and 24 requests were received over night following the University of South Wales Fair 18th September. Since Tuesday launch Gloden Tanning have added a 20% discount to the card until 31st December 201.8

If you study at any of Coleg Y Cymoed campuses, University of South Wales campuses or the Open University and would like a card please send your name, student number and address to james@yourpontypridd.co.uk

The Taff Neighbourhood Policing Team which serves the community of Pontypridd, were nominated for two awards - the Police Community Support Officer of the Year Award & the Police and Crime Commissioner Exceptional Problem Solving in Partnership Award. The Taff team were successful in securing both awards, a major achievement for the town's local Policing team.
