In support of RCT County Borough Council's Big Welsh Bite, businesses across the town put on tasters for the Friday & Saturday, to encourage festival goers to see the wonderful goods on offer in Your Pontypridd.

Thank you to those who participated on both days! There was great excitement in the town and people were delighted to try the different places around Pontypridd, who offer such wonderful food.

We were delighted to hear from businesses, that said that a few people had purchased goods from them following the taster! Thank you to all the customers and people who visited the different shops and a great time over the park at the Big Welsh Bite! It was good to here stallholders at the Big Welsh Bite talking about the Town Bite, helping to raise of profile of food businesses in Pontypridd.

Thank you to Owen Smith MP, who visited some of the participating businesses and for doing an interview on GTFM to talk about the future of Pontypridd. His support since the BID was established has been welcome for us and the businesses.

Speaking from the Pontypridd Town Bite, Owen Smith MP said:

“With the support of Your Pontypridd – our Business Improvement District – the Town Bite is the perfect way to encourage people to sample the culinary delights the town centre has to offer all year round.

“Whether you’re looking for amazing bakeries, relaxing cafés or just a wide range of fresh, delicious produce; Pontypridd has it all.

And a special thanks to Gavin from GTFM who very kindly came into the town to record the interview, and helped publicise the event on social media.

BID Manager Victoria Pulman said ‘The 12 business who took part really embraced the Town Bite initiative and offered a wide range of sweet and savoury tasters over the two day.

'The smaller retailers reported increased awareness of their business and products, as well as additional sales over the two days and the national chains reported an increase in good will towards the stores and extra footfall, especially on the Friday’.

We at Your Pontypridd were judging the success for this initiative by an increase in awareness of the range of food businesses Pontypridd now boasts and increased sales over the two days, but it was good to hear the stall holders at the Welsh Big Bite talking about Town Bite and the food in town!

We look forward to bringing back the #TownBite next year, if you have a food business in the town and you would like to be involved, please contact victoria@yourpontypridd or james@yourpontypridd.co.uk or if you like call our office on 01443 244190.

Bravery, innovation, leadership, selflessness: just some of the attributes that were celebrated last night with the return of the annual South Wales Police Awards last night. The awards, held at Brangwyn Hall in Swansea, recognised officers, staff, volunteers and partners who have gone above and beyond for the force and the communities served by South Wales Police. The Taff Neighbourhood Policing Team which serves the community of Pontypridd, were nominated for two awards - the Police Community Support Officer of the Year Award & the Police and Crime Commissioner Exceptional Problem Solving in Partnership Award. The Taff team were successful in securing both awards, a major achievement for the town's local Policing team. The first award for the Taff Neighbourhood Policing Team went to PCSO Hannah Lowe who was described as the "Heart and soul of Pontypridd town" - Hannah Lowe, who is committed to tackling crime and disorder and is an integral part of initiatives including Pontypridd Outreach, a Halloween trail and a building painting project.
