Powered by Volvo, the largest mechanical puppet ever constructed in Britain visited Pontypridd today as part of the Resurrection Tour, unearthing great passion and pride, celebrating the work of miners both in Cornwall and miners who had worked throughout South Wales.

The ‘Man Engine’ was originally commissioned in 2016 by the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape World Heritage team to celebrate the tenth anniversary of gaining UNESCO World Heritage status. Pontypridd was his fourth stop in Wales.

Thousands watched on, as old mining stories were told about a boy named William Crago (watc his full story on the link https://www.themanengine.co.uk/william-crago ) as steam came pouring out of the Man Engine reflecting on the dangerous and difficult working conditions, that miners had to face daily.

The Man Engine presented Pontypridd with an circular iron sculpture to commemorate this great occasion, the gift giving was reciprocated by the town with a gift to the Man Engine Team (pictured above) that symbolised and celebrated Pontypridd's heritage, the link chains and anchors produced at Brown Lennox & Co Ltd they were created by Artis Community and over sixty community groups out of paper mache and decorated to represent each group.

Bravery, innovation, leadership, selflessness: just some of the attributes that were celebrated last night with the return of the annual South Wales Police Awards last night. The awards, held at Brangwyn Hall in Swansea, recognised officers, staff, volunteers and partners who have gone above and beyond for the force and the communities served by South Wales Police. The Taff Neighbourhood Policing Team which serves the community of Pontypridd, were nominated for two awards - the Police Community Support Officer of the Year Award & the Police and Crime Commissioner Exceptional Problem Solving in Partnership Award. The Taff team were successful in securing both awards, a major achievement for the town's local Policing team. The first award for the Taff Neighbourhood Policing Team went to PCSO Hannah Lowe who was described as the "Heart and soul of Pontypridd town" - Hannah Lowe, who is committed to tackling crime and disorder and is an integral part of initiatives including Pontypridd Outreach, a Halloween trail and a building painting project.
