Your Pontypridd Student Card Initiative

The BID are set to launch a student card at the University of South Wales freshers fayre for new students! 

Your Pontypridd BID are delighted to announce the new student card initiative which will be launched at the University of South Wales Freshers Fayre, on Tuesday 19th September at Treforest.   

New students coming to the University will have their chance to get a Your Pontypridd Student card from our stall, and will be able to enjoy discounts from various businesses across the town. We hope to build a strong connection with the new students and show them what Pontypridd has to offer! 

We would like to thank Alfreds, Churchills, Clwb Y Bont, EE, Flowers By Design, Gwynns Opticians, Harvest Books & Crafts, Holland & Barrett, KooKoo Madame, Lazarou Hair & Beauty Salon, New Look, New York Pancake Department, Organic Wholefood and Homebrew, Q Kitchen, Performance Physiotherapy, Fone Solutions, Pontypridd Osteopathic Clinic, Pontypridd Embroidery Valleys Sports, Club Ice, Princes, Shoe Zone, Sugar and Spice, Terrys Music, The Tumble Inn (Wetherspoons), WH Smiths for participating in the initiative, we're aiming to get more BID businesses putting on great offers for students, keep an eye out for the new Student Discount section on our website which will be published soon, which will show all current offers in the town, and will be regularly updated with new offers . Students will also be required to show valid student ID in conjunction with student card! 

If you know someone who's starting at USW and who will be attending the Freshers Fayre, tell them to come and see the Your Pontypridd team and get their student card to enjoy great offers!

Gwynns Opticians have sponsored Hawthorn High School's Year 8 and 9 football team, the new kit features Gwynns Opticians logo and the boys are very excited to play in their brand new kits! 

Director Phillip Rees said "It's great to promote Hawthorn High Schools football team, and we are very happy to be sponsoring. We are always keen to work with those in our local community, and this is a great example of that"

Hawthorn High School have a number of sports teams including the football team that regularly compete at local, regional and national level. The school runs teams in football, rugby, netball, hockey, gymnastics, athletics, cross country, rounders, tennis and cricket. The sporting opportunities in Hawthorn High School cover the full range of the National Curriculum and are also complemented by a YEPS programme, Sports Days, Duke of Edinburgh and Mountain Expeditions. They also have a dedicated Welsh Rugby Union officer who is based full time at our school. His role is split across teaching PE and supporting the work of the WRU, the sports department offers GCSE and BTEC qualficiations for Key Stage 4 pupils to help them build and develop knowledge. Hawthorn High School has also had internationals in various sports including athletics, rugby league, netball, football and rounders.

A huge thank you to everyone who voted for the Hope Rescue Charity Shop in our competition for the Pontypridd Business Improvement District ‘Best Dressed Window’ award for Christmas 2017.

The winning display was chosen by voters online on the BID's Facebook page, we received a huge response with the post reaching 20,000 users and over 700 people voted, eight businesses in the Business Improvement District participated. 

AM for Pontypridd Mick Antoniw, who presented the award to our Retail Manager, Katy Scourfield said: “Congratulations to Hope Rescue who managed to fend off some fierce completion to win the public vote. Hope Rescue is doing important work by rehoming dogs and promoting responsible dog ownership and I’m delighted to present them with this well-deserved award.”

BID Manager Victoria Pulman said: "Congratulations to Katy and the team at Hope Rescue, this is the first year the BID have run this award and we've had a great response from all the businesses involved. Hope Rescue have beaten strong competition, and we look forward to doing it all again next year'

Katy Scourfield responded:“We’re absolutely thrilled to win this award. Our team of twenty volunteers work incredibly hard to provide high quality displays and a special service all year around, so this award is for the whole team. I’d like to thank all our customers for supporting Hope Rescue.”
