Gwynns Opticians have sponsored Hawthorn High School's Year 8 and 9 football team, the new kit features Gwynns Opticians logo and the boys are very excited to play in their brand new kits!

Director Phillip Rees said "It's great to promote Hawthorn High Schools football team, and we are very happy to be sponsoring. We are always keen to work with those in our local community, and this is a great example of that"

BID Manager Victoria Pulman said "Its fantastic to see one of our BID Businesses Gwynns Opticians, who have been part of the Pontypridd for a number of years sponsoring the local high school Year 8 football team and continuing to support the community by be pro-active in looking for ways to connect local business to the local community with sponsorship and promotion"

Hawthorn High School Support All Sports

Hawthorn High School have a number of sports teams including the football team that regularly compete at local, regional and national level. The school runs teams in football, rugby, netball, hockey, gymnastics, athletics, cross country, rounders, tennis and cricket. The sporting opportunities in Hawthorn High School cover the full range of the National Curriculum and are also complemented by a YEPS programme, Sports Days, Duke of Edinburgh and Mountain Expeditions. They also have a dedicated Welsh Rugby Union officer who is based full time at our school. His role is split across teaching PE and supporting the work of the WRU, the sports department offers GCSE and BTEC qualficiations for Key Stage 4 pupils to help them build and develop knowledge. Hawthorn High School has also had internationals in various sports including athletics, rugby league, netball, football and rounders.

Bravery, innovation, leadership, selflessness: just some of the attributes that were celebrated last night with the return of the annual South Wales Police Awards last night. The awards, held at Brangwyn Hall in Swansea, recognised officers, staff, volunteers and partners who have gone above and beyond for the force and the communities served by South Wales Police. The Taff Neighbourhood Policing Team which serves the community of Pontypridd, were nominated for two awards - the Police Community Support Officer of the Year Award & the Police and Crime Commissioner Exceptional Problem Solving in Partnership Award. The Taff team were successful in securing both awards, a major achievement for the town's local Policing team. The first award for the Taff Neighbourhood Policing Team went to PCSO Hannah Lowe who was described as the "Heart and soul of Pontypridd town" - Hannah Lowe, who is committed to tackling crime and disorder and is an integral part of initiatives including Pontypridd Outreach, a Halloween trail and a building painting project.
