Janet's Authentic Northern Chinese Restaurant has recently opened in Pontypridd Market, we're delighted that Janets has now joined the Business Improvement District as a voluntary member.

I recently sat down with Janet to talk about her journey and eventually ending up in Pontypridd. Janet saw Pontypridd as the gateway to the Valleys and noticed straight away the strong local communities surrounding Pontypridd. Janet's inspiration for her recipes comes from the North China/Korea border and also from Japan, Janets Restaurant brings a fusion of Asian flavours to Pontypridd Market with many of her customers already enjoying her unique recipes.

Janet first visited the Market two years ago, and she was inspired when she saw the exciting new businesses that were opening regenerating the Indoor Market. Janet now brings her love of cooking to the heart of Pontypridd, her most popular dish so far has been the Korean Bibimbap (see picture below), the term “bibim” means mixing various ingredients, while the “bap” noun refers to rice, this has been a huge hit with customers. The restaurant will also be launching a lunch option soon perfect for workers in the town looking for a nutritious healthy meal.

Visit Janets at Pontypridd Market, open 10am - 4pm Tuesday to Sunday

Bravery, innovation, leadership, selflessness: just some of the attributes that were celebrated last night with the return of the annual South Wales Police Awards last night. The awards, held at Brangwyn Hall in Swansea, recognised officers, staff, volunteers and partners who have gone above and beyond for the force and the communities served by South Wales Police. The Taff Neighbourhood Policing Team which serves the community of Pontypridd, were nominated for two awards - the Police Community Support Officer of the Year Award & the Police and Crime Commissioner Exceptional Problem Solving in Partnership Award. The Taff team were successful in securing both awards, a major achievement for the town's local Policing team. The first award for the Taff Neighbourhood Policing Team went to PCSO Hannah Lowe who was described as the "Heart and soul of Pontypridd town" - Hannah Lowe, who is committed to tackling crime and disorder and is an integral part of initiatives including Pontypridd Outreach, a Halloween trail and a building painting project. Please see the video below from South Wales Police Twitter page showing Hannah's reaction to receiving the award:
