There are lots of events to enjoy this summer in Your Pontypridd, have a look at our guide below to some of the most exciting things to do in July and August including the annual Big Welsh Bite & Vintage Transport Day. There's also a chance to create a new library story and end the summer with a bang with the return of Pontypridd's Big Weekend!

Pop-up Planetarium at Pontypridd Museum
13th July
10.30am - 1.30pm

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the #apollo11 #moonlandings we're teaming up with Dark Sky Wales to host their pop-up planetarium! Tickets available now at the Museum or on the door, along with free craft sessions!

Parti Ponty at Clwb y Bont

13th July 2019

5pm - 11pm

After the day's activities, come along to Clwb y Bont, Pontypridd, to see some of 2019's most popular Welsh language young bands. - GWILYM - ALFFA - Glain Rhys - Denielle Lewis - Aelwyd y Rhondda - Bandiau Mei - 17:00 – 23:00 - £3.

Create a new Library story at Pontypridd Library

24th July, 31st July and 7th of August

10am – 11am

Join us for our FREE creative writing, arts and crafts, building and storytelling workshops. Help us create a storybook for the Taff Vale Redevelopment and Pontypridd's Magical River Taff.

The stories and illustrations we create will be transformed into storybook for our new library.

Workshops are suitable for toddlers to children aged 8 years old. No need to book, just turn up! Children must be supervised by parents & guardians at all times.

Our last session is on Wednesday 7th August at 10am in Pontypridd Library and with a focus on what our new library will look like!

Friends of Ynysangharad War Memorial Park activities

Family Gardening Session, 23rd July. 10am - 12pm

Come along and join us in planting seeds and see how easy it is to grow food in small spaces. Meet at the First Aid (opposite play area) before going to Greenhouses. No booking required.

Master Mappers, 31st July. 11am - 1pm

Are you a family of wannabe explorers? Come and learn basic mapping skills including compass points. Put your new skills to the test by taking on the challenge of our orienteering course. This activity is FREE but spaces are limited. Bookings can be made by emailing friends@ywmp.org

The Stoned Roses are a South Wales based tribute to the iconic band The Stone Roses. Formed in January 2017 and comprising of - Andrew Pompa (vocals), Mark Edwards (drums, vocals), Paul Milton (guitar) and Julian Johnston (bass) the band have swiftly become regarded as the most authentic sounding tribute to the Manchester band. With a growing reputation both locally and throughout the UK, The Stoned Roses create a dynamic live set of all the Roses hits.

The Big Welsh Bite at Ynysangharad Park – 3rd & 4th of August, 11am – 5pm

The hugely popular two-day food festival returns for a weekend of entertainment and taste bud tantalising temptations!

Pontypridd Vintage Transport Day

10th August

11am

The Vintage Transport Day takes place in August including a parade through the town centre of Pontypridd. There will also be static vehicles include cars, buses, tractors, bikes, steam engines, stationary engines and military vehicles at the Park.

Sugar and Spice & Salad Bar present Super Fun at Pontypridd Market

8th August

4-6pm

Purchase tickets for this one off superhero themed event from either Sugar and Spice or the Salad Bar. This will be a fun holiday time event - become a superhero and save the zoo animals and take away your very own comic book adventure.

PONTY'S BIG WEEEKEND at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park

17th August

3pm - 11pm

Ponty's Big Weekend is back for the first time since 2014.

Multi-million record selling artists Ocean Colour Scene will headline a day of live music which will also feature fellow Britpop icons The Bluetones, South Wales’ very own Goldie Lookin Chain - who will bring their legends set, and up-and-coming Welsh bands Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, The Pitchforks, Al Moses and Young Garbo complete the line up.

Bravery, innovation, leadership, selflessness: just some of the attributes that were celebrated last night with the return of the annual South Wales Police Awards last night. The awards, held at Brangwyn Hall in Swansea, recognised officers, staff, volunteers and partners who have gone above and beyond for the force and the communities served by South Wales Police. The Taff Neighbourhood Policing Team which serves the community of Pontypridd, were nominated for two awards - the Police Community Support Officer of the Year Award & the Police and Crime Commissioner Exceptional Problem Solving in Partnership Award. The Taff team were successful in securing both awards, a major achievement for the town's local Policing team. The first award for the Taff Neighbourhood Policing Team went to PCSO Hannah Lowe who was described as the "Heart and soul of Pontypridd town" - Hannah Lowe, who is committed to tackling crime and disorder and is an integral part of initiatives including Pontypridd Outreach, a Halloween trail and a building painting project.
