RCT Council are set to try and stamp out street drinking and anti-social behaviour in Pontypridd Town Centre by implementing new rules about drinking behaviour which will come into force from September 2018.

A new campaign ' Calling Time on Street Drinking ' and Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) will come into force from the 1st of September 2018 introducing alcohol-free streets in Pontypridd and specific surrounding areas, with the aim of making Pontypridd a friendlier and more welcoming town to visit. The whole of RCT will become a Controlled Drinking Zone under the new PSPO, and authorised offiers from South Wales Police and the Council's Enforcement Team will continue to request a person surrenders alcohol and stops drinking if they have been causing or are deemed likely to cause anti-social behaviour, the rules are strengthened however in Pontypridd where drinking on the street will be banned in the defined Town Centre boundaries (see image below)

The new rules have been implemented by the Council after the results of a 2016/17 crime perception survey which was conducted as part of the RCT Community Safety Partnership. Nearly a third of participants named alcohol as the single-biggest contributor to crime and anti-social behaviour in Pontypridd, a viewpoint which was echoed in the PSPO consultation which took place earlier in the year.

RCT County Borough Council will be hosting a number of public engagement events in Pontypridd Town Centre throughout August, where residents can find out more about the PSPO - so people know what is expected of them when the new rules begin in September.

  • Pontypridd Town Centre - August 3rd, 7th, 9th, 13th, 14th, 16th, 20th, 22nd, 24th, 28th & 30th
  • Pontypridd Park Police Open day on August 9th.
  • Consultation Day Pontypridd Park on August 16th.
